Chengdu Highlights: Pandas, History & Local Wonders

After arriving at Chengdu’s airport or train station, you’ll be greeted by your private guide and driver. Start your day with a visit to the iconic Chengdu Panda Base, one of the world’s leading panda conservation centers. Here, you'll have the opportunity to watch pandas eating, playing, and resting in their natural habitat. Your Local Travel Buddy will share insights into the conservation efforts and history of these beloved creatures. After the visit, enjoy a traditional Sichuan lunch at a nearby restaurant.

In the afternoon, take a leisurely stroll through the nearby Wuhou Shrine, a serene site dedicated to the famous historical figure, Zhuge Liang. The peaceful atmosphere is a perfect way to unwind after a busy morning.

For dinner, your Local Travel Buddy will recommend a delicious local restaurant serving Sichuan hotpot—an unforgettable dining experience full of bold, spicy flavors. The day ends with your local travel buddy sending you back to your hotel (Hampton by Hilton or similar). 

Optional for evening: Go to a renowned Sichuan opera performance. Enjoy the vibrant colors, music, and the unique face-changing tradition, where performers switch masks in the blink of an eye. This is a fantastic way to experience the local culture and traditions.

This morning, after a hearty breakfast at the hotel, your guide will escort you on a scenic drive to Leshan Giant Buddha, one of the world’s largest and most impressive stone statues. Located at the meeting point of the Min and Dadu rivers, the statue stands an awe-inspiring 71 meters tall, and your guide will provide a rich history of the Buddha’s creation, which began in the 8th century during the Tang Dynasty. You’ll have plenty of time to walk around the area, and if you prefer, you can even take a boat ride to view the statue from the river. The site is serene and offers breathtaking views, allowing you to fully appreciate the scale and grandeur of the Buddha.

After a break for lunch at a local restaurant near Leshan Giant Buddha, enjoy traditional Sichuan dishes, including Spicy Fish Stew and Leshan-style noodles.

After a break for lunch, you’ll return to Chengdu, where the afternoon is all about experiencing the local life – relaxing at People’s Park, a lovely spot to enjoy tea at a traditional tea house.

For dinner, indulge in a delightful Sichuan meal at a local restaurant, savoring dishes like local treats like Mapo Tofu and Dan Dan Noodles.

This morning, after a tasty breakfast at the hotel, your Local Travel Buddy will take you on a trip to the Sanxingdui Museum, a must-see destination for history enthusiasts. The museum is famous for its breathtaking artifacts, including large bronze masks and statues, revealing the advanced civilization of the Sanxingdui culture, which thrived thousands of years ago. As you explore, your Local Travel Buddy will explain the mysteries surrounding this ancient civilization and the ongoing archaeological discoveries.

After lunch, you’ll have some free time to explore or shop for souvenirs before being transferred back to Chengdu Airport or the train station for your departure.

2. Visit Jinli Ancient Street for some evening shopping and to explore Chengdu's lively night scene.
